Fun fact: when I was prototyping the second edition – working out the gutter widths, exact page size, font sizing, etceteras – this was one of the pages I used to ascertain the viability of the venture. Meaning it’s one of a couple of pages to be reformatted twice. The idea behind the prototype was a straight adaptation of existing graphics, and it was implemented a couple of times in order to figure out which dpi would be easier to work with. I went with 300 instead of 320 or thereabouts, got rolling on production, and eventually made the decision to ditch the binary paint job on the Daedalus… ushering in a pile of re-renders that comes to an {it-could-but-probably-won’t-} end over the next couple of pages.
