20090911 (48, following the lettering pass) – See comments for previous page re: initial setup. There’s still a lot of work to do, but as of now (20090911, 18:46), all of the Easy Work and Old Pages of this Chapter are complete.
20091203 (2) – Well. It seemed like a good idea at the time, to be honest – add two pages, give Thad Vs. Val a bit more weight, pull the “camera” out to give a glimpse of how this event relates to The Overplot. The only appearance of the Aeon’s “brain” in the book (before it shows up in DCR, even!), and holy crap an exterior cut-away shot of the Epiphany buried in bedrock. Good thing I got most of the hull modeled forever ago (last year or thereabouts). Bad Ass, right?
The reality is a bit different. Eight environments over ten panels turned out to be quite the tour through old page files and 3d documents; panels two and three were done and redone, scrapped and restarted before hitting on the bridge interior and cutaway exterior shots; the Module bedrock didn’t come together until the Very Last Second (which actually wound up saving me a bunch of time); Yang and Greymalkin match, Raven doesn’t, Alias was asspulled and seems to work… and the line art is far from my best. I’m not pleased with it at all, in fact – the only thing preventing a redraw is the fact that the surrounding pages are so much worse.
Ultimately, these two pages add four things to the story – an exterior shot of the Addicaines coming into Bedlam, an exterior shot of the Epiphany buried in the desert, the Module (all agitated ‘n shizzle), and a catfight shot that had originally been sketched out for the last page of Expulsion before being cut and moved here. Interpretation of the perceptions and reactions of Alias, Yang and Greymalkin is left as an exercise for the reader.
