To make this page appear as intended I performed a complete re-rendering of every previous shot of the QAR. Major changes include lighting, the removal of every reference to the Sabrosa on maintenance hatches and other textures, the replacement of the “psychic” section of the signal console with “quantum,” the replacement of the circle texture, and the addition of a few ceiling lamps to act as sources for the light cast in the scene. It was an absolutely massive amount of work to conform every prior appearance of the environment to these three shots but it was totally worth it. I could have just rendered these shots and fixed the rest of them after the book was finished but by doing the continuity edit first I got a substantial amount of post-production editing out of the way while the scene was still being created. So… if you think the QAR looks different, it does – but you won’t find any proof of that fact in any existing pages, as they’ve all been edited to conform to the new location-agnostic environment.
Is James on the Sabrosa or the Astra? The world may never know.
This page also prompted the final bit of modeling for the scene – the device on the readouts in panel four is the last object to be modeled for Transitional Voices. It was intended to be in the background of Whitehouse’s cameo in Fire -13- and was added as a visual continuity edit in late August. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FORESHADOWING, which is why I put the effort in. It’s gotta be right.
A couple of weeks after the plot thing I’m not going to name was finalized I made Dyluck‘s scar consistent across all appearances. That was the third and final story-wide visual continuity edit done to accommodate this page.
I think it was worth the effort.
Friday: You’ve seen the reaction shot, now brace for reaction dialogue!
And if you can’t wait… you can read the entire scene on Patreon for a dollar (or more!). :D
