20091124 ~1430 (2) – Lettered the same time as the previous page. Pages 4-6 all required an extensive multi-draft rewrite of Yang’s lines. Aeon’s dialogue hasn’t changed since the initial “it’s time to Do This!” revision – one minor detailing swap last night to rectify the progress pie graphs, but otherwise… I spent more time than I probably should have Meditating on Yang’s lines. It’s all very important to the plot, but it does nothing to assuage the (recently voiced again) concerns that the story MAEKS NO SENSE D: – Yang is talking largely about events that happen around the time of the book that takes place before DCR, with a few mentions of DCR events followed by some hints as to where things are Going.
SPOILERS!
One of the founding pillars of the story is that this is a Big Damned Epic with a Big Damned Conspiracy planned and perpetuated by persons that are Big Damned Idiots. Or “ill-equipped for the task,” if you want to be polite about it. Heirotus rushes technology that inevitably breaks under the strain, the Templar rush a screening method that has viciously negative side effects, Lang and James don’t know enough about what’s going on to plan adequately or inform accurately, and it’s all indirectly masterminded by a Dead Space Ninja and a Super Star Ship with – quite literally – half a brain. The Module – as is (will be) indicated in DCR – being the Other Half, as necessary for the Aeon’s mission as the crew it’s been searching for.
20091125 1758 – Finished at last. Hooray for the subtle stream of dog urine!
Manass and (symbolic) dog piss. Fucking EPIC.
Mark the coordinates. Marking territory. Astral dog analogy. It works. If only the neighbor’s dog – whining and moaning for the last 20 minutes (this paragraph being written at 200911256, 0041) – were as well behaved. Having moved in below a neighbor with a dog that loves to whine and bark at the wrong time of night has, in all likelihood, had a pretty big impact on this scene.
1939 – Finished For Real, I think – some lettering tweaks, a minor dialogue change… watching The Black Hole instead of Getting Work Done, etc.
ATC: Simpsons Edition. Just in time for Thanksgiving.
Plot point – Yang refers to Dyluck, Aleph, and Aza’hel by their Original Names and Lang by his Present Name instead of his Original Name for a reason – he knew Lang in his present life. Quite well. His experience with Aleph (Whitehouse) is… kind of complicated. That complexity is most of DCR, so I won’t get into it here.
