Finally, a night-vision capable HRD (Holt-Rischmann Device) in action. This one could be used as a rifle scope, were Tantek so inclined. While the device is capable of creating a visual representation of holt-rischmann signatures, it isn’t as “picky” as the optics rig he picks up later – the HRD scope reports whatever it’s pointed at. This one’s kind of a laser rangefinder; the exo optics have an omni mode and can discriminate a handful of individual signatures, and the “desktop” version Raven is seen using later functions more like a nose.

Microphones might be a more accurate analogy, actually. This thing’s a shotgun mic, Raven’s toy in TV.1 is an omni.

As to the location

“Old 15” is what we called a section of US Route 15 near my hometown – I’m kinda surprised it’s marked as such on google maps. Also known as Blockhouse Road, the route splits off of New 15 (aka US 15 proper) at the start (or end) of PA 284 in Buttonwood and runs through Liberty (population 230 as of the 2000 census), connecting to New 15 again in Sebring. Sebring is a couple of houses and a 15 on-ramp; Buttonwood is slightly more populous.

Holt-Rischmann reads:

1. Baseline read, 1.84. Elevated; sample point is between Ornix and Beef.

2. Ornix, elevated. 2.66.

3. Ambient read, 1.32. Scope is traveling from Ornix to Thad; with a fair distance between subjects the HRD is reading close to the baseline.

4. Ornix again, 2.67, reading shock as Beef starts to reanimate. 2.6 would be Ornix’s peak HRV.

5. Thad elevated, 3.76 – as per Lang’s orders Thule Garrison would report this instance to Kaysoo.

6. Thad really elevated (read: Dyluck), 4.09 – Jackpot!

2012 10 21, 16:52 – Ready for line art. Worth noting that the scope panels (5-10 if you count WHAM!!! as a panel; 4-9 otherwise) are entirely CG. I realized yesterday that line art wasn’t strictly necessary to achieve the intended look, so I Went For late yesterday and finished the six-pack this afternoon. As these panels would be a total of fourteen drawings otherwise, doing it this way saved a good amount of effort, achieving equal (possibly superior) results.

Given that Thad’s .38 holds five and Ornix’s .50 holds four, it’s apparent that Ornix is using a different revolver, possibly a .357 Blackhawk.

2012 11 01, 15:09 – Processed in parallel with the previous page. Try saying that three times fast. Ready for shading; may have time for it tonight or tomorrow. I’d like to get OE 4 up tonight, OE 5 up Friday, and spend the weekend on CG assets for 6/7, though at this point that seems unlikely. The 6/7 bit, anyway – right now I’m technically juggling four clients and five projects, and tidying up the to-do list gets first call on my weekend.

2012 11 04, 01:19 – Started shading around elevenish. Down to spit-shining; shouldn’t need much – as with the previous page I figure I’ll sit on it overnight and post it first thing in the afternoon while my brainmeats are still warming up.

2012 11 04, 14:16 – A few minor tweaks late last night, a couple of small ones this afternoon. Posting.

  • A black ops field agent who – for reasons unknown – masquerades as a deputy from the fictional Antrim Police Department. Beef is slightly death-prone, and has been killed by Greg and Ornix. Beef...
