I don’t think Thad’s ever openly stated his profession, and I’m pretty sure he’s never said anything about what he does to West. In fact, what Thad does – or did – after art school has been left intentionally vague. West was part of the observation detail that kept an eye on Thad and other persons of interest in the 90s, so it stands to reason that he’s retained some of that information. Even if he didn’t, it could have been on the table during Raven’s briefing.
West showered and changed after the Daedalus left ELG-2623, making him the last member of the cast to do so. He’s been rocking the field jacket and cap since October 15th, 2005 – the change to a bandanna and Faravahar shirt coincides with the shift in tone and his role in the story.
I feel that the lighting works well with the Daedalus accommodation compartments. It’s ship’s night, they’re in space, and keeping the lights turned down looks good and papers over the fact that I saved some development time by re-using large amounts of work done for the wardrobe. I’m pleased with the shadow-matching on West in panels two and four – it’s some of the most accurate integration work I’ve done to date, and that’s saying something. I drew and shaded him for the next two pages while producing this page and Fire -10-, so I won’t have to remember exactly how I did that for a couple of weeks. I am going to have to figure out some other stuff to get the next couple of pages done, so there’s a good chance that the next page won’t be up in a timely fashion. Another month-plus slip isn’t completely out of the question, though there’s a plot milestone I’d like to hit this year and that’s still an achievable goal.
